New Zealand Beat India by Seven Wickets in Fifth T20I, but India Win Series 3-2

New Zealand defeated India by seven wickets in the fifth and final T20 International in Hamilton, with an outstanding batting performance from Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips. However, the victory was not enough to prevent India from winning the five-match series 3-2.

India had secured an unassailable lead after winning the first three matches. New Zealand responded by winning the fourth and fifth T20Is, finishing the series with two consecutive victories.

After losing the toss, India were asked to bat first and posted 191 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer helped India recover from an early batting collapse. However, New Zealand's batters produced a strong response, reaching the target in just 18 overs.

Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma Fall Early

India did not get the start they wanted. Opening batters Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma failed to make an impact against New Zealand's bowling attack.

Fast bowler Adam Milne struck twice, dismissing both openers and putting India under early pressure. Samson was dismissed for four runs, while Abhishek Sharma managed just one.

India had lost both wickets with only 19 runs on the scoreboard, leaving the middle order with the responsibility of rebuilding the innings.

Samson also had a disappointing series overall, managing only one half-century during the five matches.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan Rescue India

With India struggling at 19 for two, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer took charge of the innings.

The pair built an important 93-run partnership for the third wicket, stabilising the innings and increasing the scoring rate.

Iyer scored his first half-century of the tour, making 50 runs from just 23 deliveries. His aggressive batting helped India regain momentum after the early setbacks.

Kishan, who had returned to the side in the fourth T20I following an injury, also delivered a significant contribution. After being dismissed for a duck in the previous match, he responded with an impressive 61 off 32 balls.

His innings included five fours and five sixes, providing India with the attacking momentum needed to build a competitive total.

Nitish Reddy and Naman Dhir Help India Reach 191

After the dismissals of Iyer and Kishan, India were unable to produce another major partnership.

However, useful contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir helped the team cross the 190-run mark.

Reddy scored 22 runs, while Dhir contributed 33. Their efforts helped India finish at 191 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

For New Zealand, Adam Milne was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets and playing a major role in restricting India's total.

Tim Seifert Leads New Zealand's Chase with 93

New Zealand began their chase of 192 with an early setback. Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh dismissed opener Finn Allen for just two runs.

Following Allen's departure, Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell steadied the innings and began building a partnership.

Mitchell scored 29 before being dismissed, but Seifert continued his aggressive approach at the other end.

The New Zealand batter produced an outstanding innings, scoring 93 runs from 50 deliveries. His knock included a combination of powerful stroke-making and consistent scoring, putting the hosts in a strong position to chase the target.

Seifert narrowly missed out on a century before Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed him.

His innings proved to be one of the decisive contributions of the match, giving New Zealand the momentum required to complete the chase.

Glenn Phillips Finishes the Match for New Zealand

Glenn Phillips continued his impressive batting form after scoring a century in the fourth T20I.

The middle-order batter once again played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten on 65 from 38 balls. His innings included eight fours and three sixes.

Phillips ensured that New Zealand did not lose momentum after Seifert's dismissal and guided the team towards victory.

New Zealand reached 192 for three in 18 overs, completing a seven-wicket win with two overs remaining.

India Win the Series 3-2 Despite Final Two Defeats

Although New Zealand won the final two matches, India's victories in the first three T20Is had already secured the series.

The 3-2 result gives India the series win, while New Zealand can take confidence from their strong finish.

For India, the fifth match highlighted concerns in the bowling department. According to the supplied match report, all Indian bowlers recorded economy rates of nine runs per over or higher, making it difficult to defend a total of 191.

Kishan and Iyer's half-centuries provided India with a competitive score, but Seifert and Phillips produced a decisive batting performance to take New Zealand across the finish line.
