Buying a flat? Check the RERA registration before you pay a rupee

A due-diligence checklist for homebuyers to avoid stalled and delayed projects

Illustration

Before booking in any new project, search for its registration number on your state's RERA website. It shows the approved plan, the declared completion date and quarterly progress reports.

The builder-buyer agreement must state the possession date, compensation for delay and the carpet area. Pricing on super area alone is against the rules.

If a project is not registered with RERA, a low price is not a reason to book.
